Confession: I’m a Vampire Eater

Sometimes I feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when it comes to my ability to fight off food cravings and think clearly. There is a distinct difference between in the morning (when I am stellar at saying no to needless calories) and the night (when I can be weak weak weak and convince myself that “It’s really ok to devour the entire bag of marshmallows while watching TV)- I also call it “Vampire Eating.” It’s a problem. Not a big one. But it IS a problem. Studies show that people who eat after 8pm, even if they aren’t eating that many calories, have more fat than those who skip that late night snack.

During the day, I know that if I can only NOT eat late at night, that I can regulate my weight. But somehow, late at night, when I’m alone working on my computer while simultaneously watching TV, seated in my “writing chair” that happens to be situated with a clear view of the refrigerator and pantry doors… something triggers me. Maybe it’s that I am alone working late… again, maybe it’s that I generally watch The Food Network or food shows on Bravo, or maybe it’s something else. But whatever it is… it needs to stop.

The GOOD news is that my tendency to vampire eat is really what prompted me to invent my “Special Tea” that somehow has a way of curbing all cravings. This vampiring is also why I tend not to buy anything (while grocery shopping in a lucid state) that I know I won’t be able to avoid (but will desperately crave) late at night. So I guess I have my vampiring, in part, to thank for a constantly healthy stocked refrigerator and pantry. Of course I do also have dark chocolate and fruit popsicles.

A few healthy things that I always MUST have in my kitchen:

sriracha, lemon or lime juice, soy milk, quinoa, frozen edamame, kombucha, kale, frozen blueberries, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, garlic, sea salt, white pepper, miracle noodles, popchips, Emergen-C, & nimble bars (the new chick-centric bar by Balance Bar).

But I am making a decision today… I am going to stop my Vampire eating and my Post-Its in the Pantry and Skinny Jeans in the Kitchen will help.

WHAT BAD HABITS ARE YOU BREAKING TODAY?

xx

Laurel
